Theoretical Studies of Several Small-Ring Precursors to (+)-JQ1
We present the results of DFT(B3LYP) calculations on several precursors to (+)-JQ1 using an accurate basis set, including a report of conformational analysis, thermochemistry, optimized geometries and electrostatic potentials, and calculated IR and Raman spectra. Species include (I)1H-1,4-diazepin-2(3H)-imine, (II) 9H-[1,2,4]triazolo[4,3-a][1,4]diazepine, (III) 6H-thieno[3,2-f][1,2,4]triazolo[4,3a][1,4]diazepine, and (IV) 4-(4-chlorophenyl)-6H-thieno[3,2f][1,2,4]triazolo[4,3-a][1,4]diazepine. Studies are also reported on monobrominated (II)-(IV) substituted at the chiral center of the seven member ring, including a comparison of the energetics of equatorial versus axial bromination of the parent precursor. Implications with regard to the larger structure of (+)-JQ1 are discussed

In our own words: A qualitative study of Bachelor and Master of Social Work interns at Vitas Hospice
The purpose of this study was to gain a deeper understanding of the experiences of Bachelor/Master of Social Work (BSW/MSW) interns who completed a full year internship at Vitas Hospice in San Bernardino. Using the post positivist paradigm, the researcher interviewed nine previous BSW/MSW interns to find out about their experiences as interns while at Vitas Hospice. The study was conducted by interviewing the nine interns and their responses were used to develop a theory of the interns\u27 experience. These experiences led to learning about what was helpful and what was not helpful for their development as social workers as a result of their field placement at Vitas
Concerns and perceptions of faculty using Web-based instructional technology.
This study examined faculty levels of implementation of Web-based instructional technology (WBIT) and computer self-efficacy beliefs (CSE) as factors associated to faculty perception of institutional mechanisms and its relative importance as conditions supporting the implementation of WBIT in higher education. Using a sample of 334 faculty teaching at selected universities in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, faculty perceptions of support mechanisms for the implementation of WBIT were examined. Results revealed that it is possible to develop faculty profiles that include psychological and behavioral variables and that adding such variables improve the prediction of faculty levels of technology implementation. Furthermore, findings from this study suggested there are perception differences regarding the conditions that support implementation at different stages. Factors such as levels of use of WBIT and faculty concerns about implementation provided an explanation of the perception differences. In the first phases of implementation (i.e., nonuse/preparation and self/task concerns) participation and the accessibility to resources, including incentives and rewards, were clearly more important. In later stages (i.e., focus on improvement and impact concerns) the administrative support in the form of leadership interventions--providing encouragement and serving as a role models--and the visible support by the upper level leaders became key factors. Further research is needed in the area of personalization in order for universities to develop not only a cost-effective but also an efficient way of offering professional development opportunities that consider specific users\u27 profiles. Findings from this study are promising in the sense that it sets the basis for a theory-grounded definition of faculty profiles. This study establishes the foundation to reconsider the need for customized administrative practices and a more diverse spectrum of interventions which, in a constantly evolving field, are necessary for large scale technology implementations to expand in higher education institutions
Outsourcing Primary Education In Liberia Leads To Mixed Results
The long-lasting effects of a 14-year civil war, compounded by school closures caused by the 2014 Ebola outbreak, have had a huge impact on Liberia’s education system. In early 2016, the Liberian Ministry of Education announced that it would contract the operation of some government primary schools out to private companies. Researchers working with Innovations for Poverty Action examined the effects of these new partnerships and looked at how the schools deliver (or fail to deliver) better outcomes.ESRC-DFI
